When I was perusing TMZ recently (I have to do this for my blog writing, you know. It’s one of my jobs.) I stumbled upon a picture of 44-year-old, mother of three, Julia Roberts, and I thought to myself – she’s still pretty smokin’!
I have always been a Julia Roberts fan. I only saw Pretty Woman about fifty thousand times (and counting) and can recite pretty much every scene verbatim Remember the shopping scene, holding the bags in the air telling the store clerk, “Big mistake…Huge.” Love it. That’s one of my favorites. Sorry, I had to digress.
Roberts was actually also part of my motivation to train for my first half-marathon after the birth of my son over two years ago when she talked about training for her first half-marathon while filming Eat, Pray, Love. She inspired me with her statement where she talked about her training motivation and stated, “I just wanted to show my kids that the power of a female body is more than just giving birth…” I loved this quote and wrote about it back then, when I first heard it.
That being said, after seeing the latest pics of Roberts still looking pretty darn fit some 2+ years later, I felt compelled to do a little research (aka: hit up a few more gossip sites) and find out what she has been doing in her fitness routine to keep up with her impressive physique. And the answer, my friends, may shock you, as it did me.
In the era of celebrity Bikram Yoga and trendy ballet bar classes, Julia Roberts apparently prefers a more Jane Fonda approach and rocks the step aerobics! Yep, that’s right. I said it – step aerobics. Maybe it is my high school memories of a complete and total lack of coordination in step class that makes me cringe a little when I think about step aerobics, but apparently that is not the case for A-lister, Roberts.
Just last month, her trainer of over twenty years, Kathy Kaehler, explained, “She loves step aerobics and basically because she has such an active lifestyle and is a hands on mom and loves her friends and getting together with her friends. What our workout schedule turned into is that she invited her friends to come too. We’d have a big step class in her house with friends.”
Is it just me that is shocked by this revelation? Any old school workout styles that you are still rocking? Anyone still using their Thigh Masters?? C’mon, I want to hear it!
