New BFF Alert! Julia & Posh?

May 10, 2008 |12:09 | Gossips | Scandals  By : Team X

Julia Roberts and her kids having playdates at the park with Victoria Beckham and her brood?

It could happen.

I hear the Oscar winner and Posh Spice got along famously at the Costume Institute Gala in New York City on Monday night.

“They hit it off right away,” a source close to the new pals tells me. So much so that it wasn’t long before the two moms were sharing family pictures. “They were showing each other photos of their kids,” my source says. “They were just laughing and sharing mommy stories.”

Mrs. Becks certainly has made herself at home in Hollywood. Roberts is just the latest addition to an A-list roster of friends that already includes Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Eva Longoria Parker and Kate Beckinsale.

Resplendent Julia Roberts at MET's Costume Institute Gala: Photos

May 8, 2008 |12:10 | Gossips | Interviews  By : Team X

The ever charming Julia Roberts wore a platinum Giorgio Armani Privé gown at the 2008 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala, on Monday, May 5. Julia was a co-host at the event along with George Clooney, who was also outfitted by Giorgio Armani.
Her floor length custom designed gown had a soft draped neckline accented by an antique brooch. The gown had intricate beading on a mesh overlay. Julia, a red carpet pro, showed old Hollywood glamour with her hair swept up in a high bun and the soft bangs falling sideways on her forehead.

"I wore the dress because he made it for me," said Roberts, who gave the designer a hug. Giorgio Armani sponsored the evening with Vogue magazine.

The night's theme was "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy".

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the world's largest and most important art museums, located on the eastern edge of Central Park in Manhattan, New York, United States.

Its Costume Institute contains more than 80,000 costumes and accessories. Due to the fragile nature of the items in the collection, the Costume Institute does not maintain a permanent installation. Instead, every year it holds two separate shows in the Met's galleries using costumes from its collection, with each show centering on a specific designer or theme.

Costume Institute Gala: George Clooney manhandles Julia Roberts

May 7, 2008 |12:14 | Gossips  By : Team X

George Clooney was at the Costume Institute Gala last night, too - and I'm afraid it was a toss-up between showing you a picture of him with his girlfriend Sarah Larson (yes, sorry - they're still together) or with his sometime co-star Julia Roberts.

I went for Jules because, well, it's always nice to see what Ms Roberts looks like on the red carpet, isn't it? Especially because she so rarely makes an appearance on it these days. As she told a reporter last night: "This is late for me." And it was 7pm. Bless.

Live From New York: George & Julia but No Mariah

May 6, 2008 |12:55 | Gossips  By : Team X

In just a couple of hours or so, George Clooney and Julia Roberts will join fashion legend Giorgio Armani and Vogue editrix Anna Wintour to host this year’s Costume Institute gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

And I got a bunch o’ gossip goodies for you about the big star-studded, fashionista-packed evening:

While I had originally heard that Madonna was going to be sitting at Wintour's table, Madge's rep says that ain't possible: "She's in Paris doing a big show tomorrow night."

Mariah Carey will also be a no-show. I'm told she canceled last week as soon she and Nick Cannon said their I do's.

Meanwhile, I hear megastars like Clooney, along with girlfriend Sarah Larson, David and Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss and designer and Beatles scion Stella McCartney are staying at the Carlyle Hotel on the Upper East Side. And just minutes ago, I'm told, Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and baby Suri, as well as Tom Ford walked into the posh hotel.

Julia Roberts Can't Open! (And Other Crises Setting a Shattered Hollywood on Edge)

May 5, 2008 |12:39 | Gossips | Interviews  By : Team X

OK, OK, Hollywood Reporter we get it. The trade paper today took 1,600 words, three pie charts, two line graphs, and a half-dozen adorable floating-head info boxes to confirm the long-suspected word on the street that are you ready? the star system is dying. Jim Carrey can't open! Brad Pitt's last film did $4 million! Julia Roberts hasn't broken $70 million since 2001! Shriek!

What's replacing them isn't that surprising either, but the mind reels nevertheless when we see it in print:

There's a sense now evident in multiple boxoffice metrics and comments uttered privately by the dozens of agents, managers and producers interviewed for this report that the interplay among consumers, celebrities and entertainment dollars is changing. The new dynamics are a challenge the next generation of up-and-comers Shia LaBeouf, Seth Rogen, Emile Hirsch and Katherine Heigl often are cited could face.
"As audiences get younger, they don't care about movie stars in the same way," Sony Screen Gems president Clint Culpepper says. "The idea of seeing a beautiful movie star on the big screen just isn't the same to them."

Yikes! Katherine Heigl will pretend she didn't hear Culpepper the man responsible for the recent no-name hit revival of Prom Night, incidentally just say that. Meanwhile, we're looking at Speed Racer's sluggish tracking and wondering if fledgling leading man Emile Hirsch isn't facing that challenge as we speak. On the bright side, his generation already has Orlando Bloom, so he doesn't have to worry about plunging into that niche. Sky's the limit, kid.

Film releases on DVD

Charlie Wilson's War, Shrooms and Happy Gilmore in this week's biggest movie DVD releases.

Tom Hanks, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Julia Roberts come to DVD in political drama Charlie Wilson's War this week.

Graduate helmer Mike Nichols directs West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin's taut tale of 1980s international diplomacy, based on the real-life exploits of Texan politician Charlie Wilson (Hanks).

A renowned alcoholic and womaniser, Congressman Wilson nonetheless played an integral role in the fall of the Soviet Union, using his contacts within the defence department to help arm Soviet-occupied Afghanistan after an initially stilted US response.

With Hanks on his most affable form in years, Seymour Hoffman again proving he's possibly the greatest actor of his generation as CIA agent Gus Avrakatos and Roberts emerging from the cringeworthy horror of Ocean's Twelve with one of her strongest-ever performances, it's a consistently engaging, continually relevant depiction of political decisions that irrevocably changed the world.

‘Pretty Woman' actress Julia Roberts admits she doesn't use underarm hygiene products and relies on old-fashioned soap and water to keep her armpits fresh.

Speaking to US talk show host Oprah Winfrey, she said: "I don't actually use deodorant. I don't like to share that with a lot of people, but it's just never been my thing."

The mother-of-three, who insists she freshens up at midday when she is working, couldn't understand the furore over her hairy armpits at the time.
