Britney does a Julia Roberts

Troubled pop star Britney Spears is working on a comeback and she recently posed for Vanity Fair, imitating Julia Roberts.

Thesun.co.uk reports that Spears is clutching a rose with her teeth and holding up the earlier issue of Vanity Fair that featured Julia on the cover holding the rose in the same manner. Spears` life seems to have turned around as she is set for a comeback with a five million-pound one-off gig in Las Vegas.

Posh Spice Victoria Beckham has admitted that she was so in awe of Hollywood star Julia Roberts that she did a curtsy when she met her.

According to The Mirror, Beckham said that she views the actress as a "legend" and was thrilled to meet her.

"What do you do when you meet someone like Julia Roberts? She's a legend," Beckham said.

"There was a red carpet lineup and as I came to greet her, I found myself bending to curtsy."

"Incredibly, she knew who David and I were and we got on really well. She's very down to earth. We're both mums with young children, so we had a lot to talk about," she said.

"We've swapped numbers and I'm looking forward to catching up with her again."

It could happen.

I hear the Oscar winner and Posh Spice got along famously at the Costume Institute Gala in New York City on Monday night.

“They hit it off right away,” a source close to the new pals tells me. So much so that it wasn’t long before the two moms were sharing family pictures. “They were showing each other photos of their kids,” my source says. “They were just laughing and sharing mommy stories.”

Mrs. Becks certainly has made herself at home in Hollywood. Roberts is just the latest addition to an A-list roster of friends that already includes Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Eva Longoria Parker and Kate Beckinsale.

Julia Roberts and Clive Owen get into a little fight on Monday while shooting a scene outside department store Lord & Taylor on the set of their latest production, Duplicity.

The thriller will be directed by Tony Gilroy (the Bourne franchise, Michael Clayton) and is about a pair of corporate spies who share a steamy past and hook up to pull off the ultimate con job.

A recent survey called Money, Sex and Love for MSNBC and Elle magazine talked to nearly 74,000 men and women. A mere 12 per cent of men surveyed said that they'd mind if their wife earned more than they do - “and in general,” the report concluded, “men seemed happy to share the breadwinner role”.

Stephanie Coontz, director of research and public education for the Council on Contemporary Families - one of the world's more fearsome job titles - called it “a real seachange that's going on in gender roles”. The women's blog site Jezebel put it more succinctly: Dudes Don't Mind if a Lady Brings Home the Bacon. Above the piece was a picture of Julia Roberts and Daniel Moder, her cameraman husband, both smiling.

Every now and then we get an insight into relationships between men and women that suggests we have grown up and moved a step farther away from the ancestral cave. Forget those old clichés about men feeling emasculated and powerless in the same household as a richer woman. Guys can cope perfectly well in the less well-remunerated role as father, partner and supporter. Let's call it the Julia and Dan syndrome.

Paparazzi-boundary skirmishes inspired none of the songs on L.A.-based Holly Long's new CD, "Leaving Kansas," although there's ample material.

She probably won't have to worry about the paps following her to Bunker's next Saturday for her CD release party; she takes the stage about 10 p.m. Her third CD was recorded in Minneapolis at the Terrarium with mostly local musicians and techs. It was produced by Anthony J.W. Benson, who now lives mostly in New Mexico.

"That's another kind of life that people here in L.A. live," Long said. "I've actually had a brush with that because Julia Roberts lives down the street from us. There have been many times when I have come out in my robe and slippers, and yelled at the paparazzi, who are blocking our alley. I'm up in their faces like WE KNOW HER AND SHE'S NOT IN TOWN! JUST GET THE HELL OUT! It's hilarious."

"Maybe I should be taking them coffee," she added, after I told her that one day she might want them to photograph her. "But I tell you, man, when you're in a hurry and their big, fat, black SUV is blocking your driveway and you've just got to get out for your kid, it's not cool."

During our phone interview, Long made an interesting passing mention of her children being playmates of the kids of a very famous Minnesotan -- someone who, I don't think it's widely known, has a couple of small children with a woman apparently not one of the ex-wives responsible for other children he fathered and raised. "Makes you go huumm," Long said.

The ongoing struggles of an in-law are just too much for Julia Roberts to take. According to the National Enquirer, the actress is fed up with her husband Danny Moder's alcoholic sister and her latest cry for help.

When Julia heard news that a fire broke out her sister-in-law's home, she urged her husband not to reach out to his sibling, claims one family insider. His sister Jyl's problems "continually chip away at (Julia and Danny's) marriage." An insider insists, "Some of their biggest fights have been over Jyl."

Jyl's past includes multiple rehab stints and three DUI busts, reports the Enquirer. It's believed she was intoxicated at the time of the latest incident "and accidentally knocked over some candles lighting a rug on fire."

"Instead of letting Danny rush to his sister's side, Julia put her foot down and insisted his place was with her and the kids." Julia’s even delaying the Moder family's efforts for an intervention, according to the source. "Julia’s making a bad situation even worse. She wants to handle the situation personally but not until she's done filming (her latest flick, 'Duplicity')."

Apparently the bad blood's brewed between Julia and Jyl for a long time. "(Jyl's) always thought Julia stole Danny away from his first wife, Vera, and even once called her 'the devil' at a family wedding."

Katherine Heigl has lashed out at critics who compare her to Julia Roberts, stating that it is “insulting”.

However, the 27 Dresses actress thinks the impact of such comparisons is more damaging to Roberts than to her.

She says, "I can't help but feel that's (the comparison) a little insulting to Julia Roberts.

The 29-year old goes on to gush about her admiration for the Pretty Woman star.

She adds: “There's not another woman who I look at and think, 'That's it, that's whose career I want to have.'

"I'm just me and trying to do the best I can in every decision in any given moment."

She puts it all on the line. She tells him she wants more from the relationship than what he's offering. She wants a white-horse-riding hero to save her and run off with her for a happily-ever-after ending.

"That's impossible," he says. He can't make the commitment she wants. So she leaves. Soon after, romantic music blaring, he pulls up in a white limo, climbs her fire escape, embraces her and says he's ready for her happily ever after. The end.

Yeah right! It may have worked like that for Julia Roberts and Richard Gere in Pretty Woman, but if you're waiting for your Prince Charming to beckon you back, you may be waiting from here until the end, for real. Being as open and vulnerable as Roberts' Vivian was when she told Gere's Edward she wanted more is a movie moment that can be duplicated in real life with one exception — the outcome. Reality's outcome could be something you'll never see in the movies. In fact, acting the fool for love could be one of the last scenes you'll ever star in, but one of the best scenes you'll ever play.

Life imitates art, but not so artfully
Recently, a friend was telling a group of women about her own Richard Gere-type romance. He was illusive, inconsistent and stubborn with his feelings and commitments. But in the same breath, she said she hadn't had so much fun or felt so comfortable with someone in a long time. She liked him immensely. Her friends were ecstatic. She emphasized that she didn't know what it all meant, but that she was willing to explore it.
