JULIA: MEGASTAR MOM

January 31, 2008 |15:06 | Gossips  By : Team X

'It was one of those rare times where you go: 'My face is just too tight already!'," roars Julia Roberts, letting rip with one of her famous laughs.

"I wanted to look as much like Joanne Herring (the right-wing Texan socialite she plays in Charlie Wilson's War) as I could. She is very open about the fact that she's had cosmetic surgery, so I was trying to do things with my face to make it appear as though I was 50, but had had some work done. I wore different tapes under my wig and tried to pull my face in different ways. It was challenging, it really was."

Roberts insists she doesn't "get hung up" on her age, on- or off-screen, these days - not since she turned 40 last October anyway. She'd told Oprah Winfrey beforehand that passing the milestone would be a relief, and says now that it actually was, a surprising confession from an actress not yet officially dislodged as Hollywood's biggest female star more than 20 years after her first film.

Flowers" in bloom with Roberts

January 28, 2008 |15:17 | Gossips  By : Team X

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Julia Roberts will star in the film adaptation of Margot Berwin's upcoming novel "Hothouse Flowers."

The actress also will produce the feature for Sony's Columbia Pictures.

Roberts will play a recently divorced woman who is dissatisfied with her job at a Manhattan ad agency and embarks on an adventure.

The studio bought the rights to the book by Nerve.com writer Berwin. The project, however, has no writer or script because of the almost 3-month-old writers strike.

Roberts stars in "Charlie Wilson's War" and recently wrapped the indie family drama "Fireflies in the Garden." Her next project is Tony Gilroy's thriller "Duplicity."

According to contactmusic.com, Roberts thinks they look like her husband Danny Moder, her mother and her sister, reports contactmusic.com.

She said: "I have a good looking husband, so we're alright."

Roberts added: "There is still hope (for some of her traits) in their personalities. We still hope there will be some sass passed down. No brown eyes, but some attitude."

Roberts approached to be stuttering spokesperson

January 22, 2008 |13:42 | Gossips  By : Team X

Julia Roberts and her brother Eric have been asked by a stuttering charity to help promote its cause, because they both suffered from the affliction as children.

The pair overcame their problem before reaching Hollywood - and the Stuttering Foundation of America (SFA) wants them to help others.

A recent newsletter read: "The Roberts siblings stuttered as children and ironically give credence to the factor the heredity/genetic link in the stuttering equation. They have no doubt inspired young people with the problem."

Representative Jane Fraser told the New York Post newspaper: "It would be marvellous to have them participate.

Hanks and Roberts lose UK box office battle

January 17, 2008 |13:55 | Gossips  By : Team X

The combined star power of Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts failed to lift Charlie Wilson's War to the top of the UK box office at the weekend as Will Smith's I Am Legend remained at No 1.

Mike Nichols' true-life tale of the Texas playboy senator who helped the mujahideen topple the Soviet Union in Afghanistan opened with £1.3m against Legend's £2m, despite the latter having been in cinemas since Boxing Day.

The American way

January 16, 2008 |14:21 | Gossips  By : Team X

CHARLIE WILSON’S WAR (15, 101 mins) Comedy/Drama. Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, Rachel Nichols, Shiri Appleby, Ned Beatty, Om Puri. Director: Mike Nichols.

ALTHOUGH it stops tantalisingly short of drawing explicit links between American involvement in Afghanistan during the early eighties and the rise of Osama bin Laden and al Qaida, Mike Nichols starry political satire draws a trickle of blood with its timely references to conflict in the Middle East.

Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing) gifts the most telling lines to the eponymous politician, played with easygoing charm by Tom Hanks. Based on true events, Nichols’ ribald comedy revolves around naive and idealistic Texas congressman Charlie Wilson (Hanks), who is destined for great things on Capitol Hill, flanked by feisty assistant Bonnie Bach (Adams).

Of course publishers and critics are pushing the book for reading groups since they are hoping that will increase sales even more.

Julia Roberts Profile

January 12, 2008 |15:16 | Gossips  By : Team X

Julia Roberts is one of the world’s most well known actresses. That famous smile has graced the red carpet hundred of times and she is one of the most powerful women in Hollywood, being named the biggest female movie star of all time.

She was born Julia Fiona Roberts on 28th October 1967 in Smyrna, Georgia. When she was young she loved animals and she originally wanted to be a vet.

However, after graduating of Georgia State University she moved to New York where she signed to an agency and began to pursue a career in modelling and acting.

She made her acting debut supporting her brother Eric in Blood Red in which she had just two words of dialogue.

He break came when she starred in the independent move Mystic Pizza in 1988, gaining her recognition and attention from the industry. She then went on to appear in Steel Magnolias the following year and won Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars for her performance.

Since then her career has gone from strength to strength. Her most famous role came when she played Vivian Ward alongside Richard Gere in the phenomenally popular Pretty Woman. The Cinderella rags-to-riches story of a prostitute who is hired by a wealthy businessman to accompany him to flashy events and parties won the hearts of movie-goers all over the world.

Charlie Wilson's War

January 11, 2008 |15:45 | Gossips  By : Team X

To paraphrase Ronald Reagan's immortal words: there they go again. Another deeply muddled, fence-sitting, obtuse Hollywood picture about American politics, excruciatingly unsure whether to crack wise satirically, or go into a glassy-eyed patriotic celebration. It's a comedy, but with a persistent ring of phoniness and unfunniness. And Julia Roberts gives the worst performance of her career: humourless and semi-intentionally grotesque in the role of Joanne Herring, a rightwing political hostess. Clearly, we're all supposed to find the feisty Texan gal irresistible, but her triangular face has all the charm of a unfed pitbull, an impression strengthened when, with deadly seriousness, she awards herself a getting-out-of-the-pool-in-a-bikini scene just in case we weren't sure that she was still attractive.
